Established in the 15th century by King Tashi Namgyal, Namgyal Tsemo Monastery is known for its large statue of Maitreya Buddha. The monastery was built to serve as a royal chapel and to protect the region from evil influences. It has since become a significant spiritual site in Ladakh.
